Motorola has been working on a new clamshell Razr 3 for a while now. Earlier this week, its first leaks hit the airwaves Photos, implying that it will resemble a "puzzle" Galaxy Z-Flip3. A now-famous leaker has revealed that the company is also preparing a phone with a rollable display.

According to respected leaker Evan Blass, Motorola is working on a rollable smartphone internally codenamed Felix. The device is said to have a convertible form factor like the two previous Razras, but without the flexible hinge. The larger display is to be achieved by a scrolling mechanism instead. He is supposed to increase it by up to a third.

Phones with a rollable display are nothing new, but no one has managed to bring them to market yet. One of the pioneers of this technology are the Chinese companies TCL and Oppo, but they have not yet gone beyond concepts. Perhaps the closest LG came in this area was to introduce a device aptly named Rollable last year, but this project was terminated as the Korean tech giant was forced to close its mobile division due to long-term losses. According to recently leaked patents, it is working on a rollable smartphone i Samsung.

When Motorola's "roller" could be introduced is unknown at this time, but according to Blass, the current phase of testing suggests that it won't be on the scene until a year from now. These devices are apparently still the music of the future, although not so distant after all.
