A version of Samsung's next smartwatch Galaxy Watch5 with the nickname Pro will apparently not only have a giant Battery, but the watch itself will also be very durable. According to the respected leaker Ice universe, they will use sapphire glass and even have a titanium construction.

Titanium construction is not exactly common in smartwatches, most of them are made of aluminum or steel. Perhaps even more interesting is that Galaxy Watch5 Pro should use sapphire glass. We could see this on some ultra-premium watches with the system in recent years Wear OS, such as those from Tag Heuer or Garmin watches.

The advantage of sapphire glass is its scratch resistance, which gives smartwatches that use this material excellent durability. The downside is that sapphire is not as impact resistant and heavy. But the main thing is also the significantly higher price. While for example price Galaxy Watch4, which don't have sapphire glass, started at around $300, Huawei Watch, which have them, cost $350. That's not a big difference "on paper", but you have to take into account that seven years have passed since then and that inflation and chip shortages have pushed prices up.

Galaxy Watch5 should be available in other models in addition to the Pro model two versions and be offered in sizes 40-46 mm and have a body structure measurement sensor like the previous generation. They will most likely be introduced in August. But the question is whether it makes sense to use such premium and expensive materials for an electronic device that has a lifespan of only a few years. It also goes against the philosophy of creating electronic waste and unnecessary waste of materials. He got burned the most in this regard Apple, which for Series 0 came with a truly all-gold finish. He concluded that it was a boy immediately after Series 1 and 2, which were no longer gold. Later came ceramics, steel and indeed titanium.
