Contract chip manufacturing is a gold mine for Samsung. This business forms a significant part of his income. The Korean giant is also actively trying to win more customers from its main rival in this field, the Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC. Qualcomm has also been relying on Samsung's foundry for the production of its chips for some time. It usually splits its orders between Samsung and TSMC. Samsung got the bulk of orders for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, which is perhaps why Qualcomm became one of its top five clients for the first time ever.

Korea's Yonhap news agency reported that Samsung's financial results for the first quarter of this year included a document that mentioned Qualcomm as one of the Korean giant's top five clients for the period. Specifically, it ranks fourth, with Samsung's most important division behind it, Samsung Electronics, and ahead of it Apple, Best Buy and Deutsche Telekom. In addition to chips from other companies, Samsung's chip division also makes Exynos chipsets that (for the most part) devices use Galaxy.

It is questionable whether Qualcomm will remain in the ranking of Samsung's five largest clients. It is expected that the next flagship chip of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be manufactured by TSMC. Qualcomm is reportedly moving to the Taiwanese giant because of a very low yield Samsung's 4nm process.
