Street View mode in Google Maps is getting a few new features to mark its 15th anniversary. Specifically, it is the possibility to view historical data on Androidua iOS and the Street View Studio tool.

Google Maps in its web version introduced the possibility to see older images in Street View in 2014. The ability to "travel back in time" now comes to devices with Androidin the iOS. For this purpose, a "Show more data" button will be added to mobile Street View, which will open a "carousel" of older images for a given location. Images in this popular mode can date back to 2007.

Google is also introducing a new feature called Street View Studio to Street View, which allows users to quickly and en masse publish sequences of 360-degree images. Before users do so, they have a final preview. Images can be filtered by file name, location and processing status, and the user can receive notifications from the browser when finished. In addition, the American technology giant is testing a new Street View camera, which is significantly smaller than the ones it has used so far. This ultra-portable system weighs just under 7kg and, according to Google, is about the size of a house cat.

The new camera is modular, allowing Google to add components like LiDAR to it as needed, which can collect images with even more useful details like potholes or lane markings. It can also be attached to any vehicle with a roof rack and controlled from a mobile device. It will be put into full operation next year.
