I'm sure we all know it. For security reasons, we activate some kind of device lock and simply forget it. How to unlock Samsung if you forgot password, PIN or character? There are several ways that directly offer Find My Mobile or Smart Lock, in extreme situations even device reset using the buttons on the phone.

Find My Mobile 

Find My Mobile helps you find your device Galaxy remotely unlock by accessing the web. However, to use this feature, your device must be powered on, connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, and registered to a Samsung account with remote unlock enabled. So it's a good idea to activate the feature if you haven't already and you have access to your device. To do this, follow these steps. 

  • Go to Settings. 
  • Choose Biometrics and security. 
  • choose Find my mobile device. 
  • To activate the Remote Unlock function tap the radio button. 
  • If you are not signed in with a Samsung account, you will be asked to do so.

How to remotely unlock a mobile device with Find My Mobile 

On the computer open a web browser and enter https://findmymobile.samsung.com. Click here Log in and of course enter your Samsung account credentials. Tap again Log in and then you will see your device on the right side of the screen. Here you will find all the devices under your account, so select the one you need to unlock. To do this, just click on the icon here Unlock. You will see a pop-up asking you to verify your Samsung account password. After entering it, click on NEXT. The window will close and a new one will appear informing about the result.

Smart Lock 

The way a smart lock works is that if the device detects a trusted location or device, it will unlock itself and stay unlocked. So if you set your home as a trusted location, the device will automatically unlock there once it's in that location. This feature can be used if you have some lock method set up. However, if you do not use the device for more than four hours, or if you restart it, you must always unlock the screen using a set gesture, code or password. 

Setting the Smart Lock function 

  • Go to Settings. 
  • Select an offer Lock the display. 
  • Choose here Smart Lock. 
  • Unlock the screen using the preset lock method. 
  • Click on I understand.
  • Select an option (see below) and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. 

There are several types of smart lock functions as discussed above. So it is about trusted places, where you enter those where the device can be unlocked. Trusted devices they define which devices will keep your phone unlocked if those devices are nearby. But you will also find an option here body worn detection. In this case, the device will be unlocked whenever it is near you. However, this is a very risky option, so think about whether it is appropriate to set it up.

Reset the device 

If you don't have Find My Mobile or Smart Lock pre-set and your device uses a newer one Android, like version 4.4, you have no choice but to resort to its reset, i.e. perform a factory reset using the buttons on your device. Of course, this will remove all personal data from your device, so it is advisable to back up your device regularly. 

Most devices Android has security measures in place that prevent them from restoring factory settings in case of theft. One of them is called Google Device Protection. If you have a Google account on your phone, after resetting the device using the buttons, it will ask you to informace about your Google Account. If you don't know your email address and password, you're out of luck (or reset it first).

First, make sure the device is turned off. If you try to turn off your device, you'll be asked to verify your identity with a PIN, password, or gesture, but you don't know it. So you will have to wait until the device runs out of battery and turns itself off. Open the recovery menu using the buttons on your device. The key combination required to open the recovery menu varies depending on your device. 

  • If your device doesn't have a home button or a separate power button (Note10, Note20, S20, S21, Fold, Z Flip), press the volume up button and the side button at the same time until the device vibrates and the logo appears. At this point, you can release the pressure. 
  • If your device doesn't have a home button but has a separate power button (S8, S9, S10), press the volume up button, Bixby and the power button at the same time until the device vibrates and the logo appears. 
  • If your device has a physical home button (S6 or S7), press and hold the volume up, home and power buttons at the same time. When you feel the vibration, release the power button. Your device will vibrate again and a menu will appear. At this point, you can release the other buttons. 

Once the recovery menu appears, use the volume up and volume down buttons to select an option Delete all user data or Restore to factory settings and press the power off button. Next, use the Volume Down or Volume Up buttons to select Yes. Press the power button to select Restart device. 

Your device will then process your choice and you will see an inscription once the process is complete All data deleted at the bottom of the screen. Press the power button and select Restart the device. The whole process can take several minutes. After the entire process is successfully completed, the device will turn on by itself. At that moment you will be prompted to set up the device, just as it was the first time after purchasing it.

Google account 

If your device still has a version Androidfor 4.4 or lower, you can unlock it with your Google account password. The moment you fail to unlock your device five times in a row, an option will appear Unlock with Google Account. Just enter your email and password here and then tap on Log in.
