In March, the globally popular keyboard app Gboard hinted that it would soon make a split keyboard available for flexible phones. Now we finally have our first look at this feature.

Although this option has been available for some time, the split keyboard feature itself has not yet been made available. However, developers acting in the online world under the name RKBDI managed to get it working on Foldu3 already.

The split keyboard, unlike the standard one, divides the keys into two halves with five on each side in the first three rows. The G and V keys are duplicated. It's also worth noting that the bottom row has a fairly long spacer that bridges the gap created by the split keyboard.

According to the team behind the Rboard mod for Gboard, the split keyboard is aimed primarily at foldable devices, not tablets. Since Google is interested in tablets (in addition, it recently introduced its at all first), however, it is more than likely that they will adapt the function for them as well. E.g. Galaxy However, Z Foldy has a groove in the middle of the internal display due to the folding mechanism, and with its presence it is not very comfortable to type on the displayed keyboard. However, this layout will provide significantly more comfort when entering characters on the internal display.
