In order for the Czech Telecommunications Authority to directly regulate the prices of wholesale services provided by the three network operators T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone, it has prepared a new proposal. He takes into account the comments of the European Commission, which just rejected his previous proposals.

As reported CTK, so the controller states that retail prices for mobile services, especially data, are significantly higher in the Czech Republic compared to the European average, according to him, the oligopoly of operators T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone keeps them high. Virtual operators are also affected. According to ČTÚ, the wholesale prices offered to other operators are even higher than the retail ones and make it impossible for them to offer competitive tariffs.

The new nationwide operator, which could operate within the framework of so-called national roaming thanks to the commitments of the three large operators from last year's 5G auction, according to the CTU, will not arrive on the market before the end of 2024. Data wholesale offers do not allow access to voice services, which are currently are still demanded by the majority of customers, but even in the case of the theoretical possibility of their integration on one SIM, they do not allow replication of tariffs for virtual operators.

At the beginning of April, ČTÚ retreated from the latest intention to regulate wholesale prices, at least temporarily. At the time, the European Commission and the Office for the Protection of Economic Competition (ÚOHS) opposed the regulation consisting in the prohibition of margin compression and the setting of a maximum price for virtual operators. The ČTÚ Council then also decided not to issue the intended measure of a general nature. ČTÚ has previously failed with the European Commission's proposal to permanently regulate the market.
