WhatsApp user activity increased significantly in the first quarter of this year, according to a new study by MoneyTransfers.com. Indeed, it reports that user engagement for the Meta-owned messaging app has increased by a whopping 41%.

This growth is largely due to the sheer volume of "power users" who use the platform every day. The study shows that this classification of users represents 55% of the platform's average monthly users. Users between the ages of 18 and 34, who also use Facebook or Instagram (both owned by Meta) more, contributed to this.

The Russia-Ukraine conflict may also have played a role in this increase, as people use the app to communicate securely about knowledge more often than before. In connection with this, Telegram, for example, also grew by 15,5%, or Line. 2022% of monthly average users (MAU) used the platform in the first quarter of 45, a significant increase from 35% in the previous quarter. Messenger reached 16,4% MAUs, which is also up from the 12% achieved in the same period last year.

According to the survey, WhatsApp and Messenger currently have the largest market share in the United States. As a result, Meta's apps accounted for 78% of their usage over the period. Even so, Meta faces growing competition from other social platforms, just like Telegram. Over the past two years, competing apps have gained 22% market share, compared to just 1% in Q2020 14.

That's why Meta has also been working hard in recent months to provide useful new features to WhatsApp users. These include the launch of a Community that brings together different groups under one roof, emoji reactions and a bigger limit on file sharing.
