Samsung and Apple could soon compete in another market segment beyond smartphones, tablets and wearables. According to numerous reports, the American company is very flirtatious with entering the world of VR and AR, as the launch of its first VR/AR device could be around the corner. Apple's developer conference takes place on Monday, June 6.

Early evidence suggests that the company has chosen a name for the operating system powering its developing VR/AR headset realityOS. The name appears in parts of the code, and as The Verge reported, it was also recently trademarked by a company called Realityo Systems LLC. Apple but he is known for inventing companies that register different names to avoid being directly associated with him. Regardless of these technical details, the RealityOS brand has just become a trademark in relation to "wearable computing" described by keywords such as: hardware, software, peripherals and video games.

Samsung should also return to the VR/AR market

Samsung no longer sells its Odyssey and Gear VR headsets, having previously given up on any VR/AR hardware ambitions after years of experimenting with the concept. But that doesn't mean he can't come back. At MWC 2022, Samsung Electronics CEO Han Jong-hee hinted at the possibility that the company could produce a new Metaversa augmented reality headset. And that even "it won't be too long" before the public meets this creation.

It's unclear whether this device for Metaverse content will be a headset, smart glasses, or something else. However, Samsung said it was "striving for perfection in preparation for launch". So maybe the plans of Samsung and Apple coincide, and both companies are developing new headsets for some reality that will be released soon. The question is whether the users who should be using these products are ready for it. Because if companies don't present us with a clear use, if they don't give us a world to "consume" using these realities, success simply cannot happen.
