The globally popular navigation application Google Maps has recently received several new useful features, such as a new one view or mode enhancement Street View. Now another novelty has been added to it: the air quality index (AQI).

For this purpose, a new map layer has been added to the application, which the user can access by tapping the circular button directly below the search bar and the carousel menu of suggestions. A green AQI icon appears in the lower right corner next to public transportation, COVID-19 and wildfire information.

After entering the air quality layer, the current map display is zoomed out. Pins will appear above the largest locations and a specific location will be shown by tapping on any colored dot. The user will see the air quality index, which is a measure of air health (in the US it takes the form of a scale from 0-400+), along with advice for outdoor activities when informace last updated and links to more informace. Google has started releasing the new function for the mobile version of Maps in the USA, it should reach other countries in the coming days or weeks.
