Qualcomm introduced a new flagship chip a few weeks ago Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 and is already hard at work on its successor (probably named Snapdragon 8 Gen 2). informace.

According to well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will have a rather unusual configuration of processor cores, namely one large Cortex-X3 core, two medium-sized Cortex-A720 cores, two also medium-sized Cortex-A710 cores and three small Cortex-A510 cores. So it will apparently be the first ever mobile chipset using a four-cluster processor configuration, as the current ones use a three-cluster one. Graphics operations are to be handled by the Adreno 740 chip, which is said to be built on the same architecture as the current Adreno 730 (however, it will probably run at a higher frequency).

The Cortex-X3 and Cortex-A720 cores should offer up to 30% more performance compared to the X1 and A78 cores from 2020 and a smaller jump compared to the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 should be manufactured in 8nm like the Snapdragon 1+ Gen 4 by the TSMC process, which means we can't expect a big increase in core frequency. It will probably be launched in December and the Xiaomi 13 series could be the first to use it.
