Advice Galaxy Watch4 switched from Tizen to Wear OS and she did well. The potential of the platform is really huge and it also has the promise of growth. Samsung released two models Galaxy Watch4, which are functionally very similar, but visually different. Thinking of buying them? So which one is right for you?

The competition in the market for wearables and specifically for smart watches is great. But is there a better option than buying a watch from the same manufacturer for your Samsung phone? Of course, this will give you an exemplary combination of functions, but it should be remembered that it is also advisable to have an account with Samsung, otherwise you will be robbing yourself of a lot of data unnecessarily.

Like eggs eggs. I mean, almost

Both the devices are not much different from each other. The watches actually have more similarities than differences: they have the same smooth 60Hz displays, the same sensors, the same Samsung-made chipset, the same storage, the same batteries, and the same RAM. They also run the same software and should receive the same software updates.

To be specific, the storage is 16 GB, the RAM is 1,5 GB, the chipset is Exynos W920, all models have IP68 certification and are MIL-STD-810G compliant. They also have NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/na or LTE. Sensors measure heart rate, ECG or blood pressure. The differences are mainly in materials, sizes and appearance.

It's about size

Housing Galaxy Watch4 is made of aluminum and has two exclusive color options that would be the envy of Classic version owners: pink for the 40mm size and green for the 44mm. These are complemented by black and silver. He generally has a leaner, more athletic appearance. Galaxy Watch4 Classic have a sturdier stainless steel case and a physical rotating bezel (the base version mimics this feature with a touch-sensitive bezel). This rotating bezel can also help protect the display as it extends over it. The Classic model is sold in 42 and 46mm sizes in black and silver.

Only the size of the display and the battery differ between the watch sizes. The smaller models have a 1,2" OLED display with a resolution of 396 x 396, while the larger models have a 1,4" OLED display with a resolution of 450 x 450. The smaller watch has a battery with a capacity of 247 mAh, the larger models have a significantly larger battery with a capacity 361 mAh. Samsung states that all models Watch4 lasts up to 40 hours on a single charge. Of course, it all depends on how you use them.

How much does it cost?

Due to the sizes and the extra charge for the LTE version, we have quite a few models here. Which you can choose from. The prices listed below are the recommended retail prices on the Samsung.cz website. E.g. Alza but it offers numerous price concessions, when it gives you headphones for free with the watch Galaxy Buds Live. LTE version Galaxy Watch4, as well as the LTE version of the smaller Classic model, are not currently available on Samsung's website.

  • Galaxy Watch4 40 mm: 6 990 $
  • Galaxy Watch4 44 mm: 7 490 $
  • Galaxy Watch4 Classic 42 mm: 9 490 $
  • Galaxy Watch4 Classic 46 mm: 9 990 $
  • Galaxy Watch4 Classic 46mm LTE: 11 490 $

Buy Galaxy Watch4 or the Classic version?

The price difference is quite drastic, but you don't get that much extra with the Classic version. Their advantage is mainly in the larger case, which of course will appeal to more men, even if their display is of the same proportions as the larger version of the basic watch. The problem is with the rotating bezel. It is really addictive and people enjoy using it.

It is a sure alternative to a crown Apple Watch, but due to its size, it is much easier to control, especially during sports, when you definitely don't want to run your finger over the display. Even if you have gloves on. Various leaks mention that future generations will get rid of this element. I personally hope not. Anyway, if so, there's still a chance until it sells out Galaxy Watch4 Classic.
