Foldable smartphones have come a long way in a short time, but they are still very expensive. However, according to a new report from South Korea, Samsung, the long-term leader of this segment, is working on a "bender" whose price should be around $800.

So far, Samsung has launched six flexible phones: Galaxy Fold, Z Fold2, Z Fold3, Z Flip, Z Flip 5G and Z Flip3. Prices have decreased a bit over time, but they are still quite high for the average consumer (specifically, the original Fold cost $ 1, its third generation starts at $ 980; the first Flip went on sale for $ 1, while the "three" is 799 dollars cheaper).

According to Korean website ETNews cited by the server 9to5Google Samsung is developing a "low-end flexible phone priced under a million won". That is roughly 800 dollars or less than 19 thousand CZK. Samsung said this "puzzle", which is supposed to be a low-end version Galaxy Z Flip, it plans to launch in 2024. It is also working on a cheaper version of the Z Fold.

If we had to guess what the Korean giant might "cut" on its future affordable foldable smartphone to get to the above price, it would be an external display, wireless charging and possibly water resistance. A "non-flagship" chip would certainly help to reduce the price. Whatever the price of this device, it's clear that it's only a matter of time before flexible phones become mainstream. And Samsung will play a key role in this.
