The globally popular chat platform WhatsApp recently came with many useful innovations, such as the ability to send files up to 2 GB in size, the ability to add up to 512 people, support up to 32 people in a video chat or function Communities. Now it has been revealed that a new feature is in the works that will allow users to hide their online status.

A new feature was discovered on WhatsApp by a specialized website BetaInfo, who also shared the corresponding image from the pro version iOS. It is most likely that the pro version will also get the feature Android (and maybe a web version as well).

The feature comes in the form of a new item in the Recents menu (under Settings) that introduces two ways other users can see you. There's the original option where your online status is always visible to everyone, or you can set it to match your Last seen setting. This means you can effectively limit it to contacts, selected contacts, or prevent anyone from seeing it.

Hiding Online Status will certainly be a welcome option for users who already keep their last seen status secret, and the new feature will finally allow them to go completely stealth. The feature is currently under development and at this time it is not clear when it will be released to the world (it is not even available in the beta version of the app yet).
