Samsung is expected to launch its latest line of flagship foldable smartphones this year Galaxy From Fold4 a Galaxy From Flip4. This should happen on August 10, although we have no official confirmation yet. Analysts however, they have now indicated that the company plans to scale back sales of its lines Galaxy A a Galaxy S to focus on its upcoming foldable phones instead.

Samsung will be looking to maximize sales of the Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 to compete for a bigger share of the premium smartphone market against companies like, of course Apple. Analysts explain that since inflation tends to have a greater impact on cheaper phones than their more expensive counterparts, the increased sales of premium-priced phones that foldable phones are sure to have could actually help the company recover from the losses.

Samsung has 50 million unsold smartphones in the hands of distributors, most of which are from the A series. This global decline in sales is due to a combination of several factors, including repeated waves of COVID, the Russia-Ukraine crisis and a strengthening US dollar. Samsung is expected to double its sales targets for foldable smartphones from 2021 to recover its losses and strengthen its position in the smartphone market.

A step in the right direction?

From January 2021 to March 2022 he had Apple in the United States average smartphone market share of 52,2%, while Samsung's 26,6%. The only time Samsung's sales came within striking distance of Apple's dominance was in the third fiscal quarter of 2021, when the former coincidentally launched foldable phones Galaxy From Fold3 and Samsung Galaxy From Flip3. He will rely on their success this year as well.

The decision to prioritize flexible phones seems to be a step in the right direction, as the Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 were the top two foldable device shipments in 2021 (although that's not too much of a surprise given the small competition). The Z Flip3 took a whopping 52% of the foldable phone market last year. As Samsung's closest rival in the foldable smartphone space is Huawei still facing global sanctions and its competitors such as Apple and OnePlus are yet to launch their foldable phones, the company will dominate the industry for some time to come.
