For months, representatives of the company Nothing have been baiting us until yesterday, when they officially presented us with their first mobile phone. Even when they presented – we already knew the shape, camera specifications, used chipset and many other information. But we didn't know when we could start looking forward to the phone. The most interesting phone of the year is already on pre-sale.

The first phone of the London company offers quite impressive equipment considering that it is priced in the middle class. However, it's the design that's the most appealing aspect of this 6,55-incher Androidu, because it develops the entire design language of Nothing. From a distance, however, Nothing Phone (1) clearly looks like iPhone 12/13 which is a shame. It is covered by glass from the front and on its back, and has a degree of resistance to water and dust IP53.

The back side is more interesting

The back features a unique transparent design and light bars named as Glyph. Paired with software, the LED strips respond to notifications and device status changes, such as a charge indicator, while offering a certain level of customization. There's also a dual camera setup that consists of a 50MP Sony IMX 766 main sensor and a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN1 ultra-wide sensor with a 114-degree FOV. Optical image stabilization is only available on the main sensor, while EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) is present on both sensors. When using the rear cameras, the Glyph lighting can be used as a fill light instead of the LED flash. The selfie camera has a 16-megapixel Sony IMX 471 sensor and is located in the punch hole.

The camera's software modes include Portrait, Night Mode, Night Panorama, Night Video and Expert Modes. The company said that the dual camera setup has been tuned using a 10-bit display to make images look as true as possible to what is seen through the viewfinder (ie the display). Video recording modes are limited to 4K at 30fps on the rear assembly, while the selfie camera can record 1080p at 30fps.

Both the display and performance are in the middle

On the front, the Nothing Phone (1) features a 120Hz OLED display with a 10-bit resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a fineness of 402 ppi. It has a relatively modest peak brightness of 500 nits and a peak brightness of 1 nits for better outdoor use. The phone's display also includes an optical in-display fingerprint reader. There is also a software face unlock that will work even when wearing a mask or respirator.

The Nothing Phone (1) uses a slightly modified Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ processor that enables wireless charging support. The latter is paired with either 8 or 12GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of non-expandable UFS 3.1 storage. A 4mAh battery was used, which supports 500W PD33 wired fast charging, but is limited to Quick Charge 3.0 compatible chargers. Qi wireless charging is available at 4.0W. Reverse wireless charging for headphones and other accessories is limited to 15W. It is worth noting that the Nothing Phone (5) will not come with a charger in the box, but you will find a USB- C to USB-C.

Even the price is middle class

The Nothing Phone (1) features the Nothing OS built on Androidu 12. This lightweight launcher includes a number of minor tweaks that are often associated with the Google Pixel line of smartphones. Nothing promised three years of OS updates and four years of bi-monthly security patches for its first device. The pre-sale is now running, the sharp start of sales will begin on July 21. Prices start at 12 thousand for the 8 + 128GB version.
