Google Maps will offer energy-efficient routes adapted to electric cars, hybrid cars and diesel cars. By analyzing the APK files of the latest beta of the application, the website found this out 9to5Google. In addition, the popular navigation app has changed the shared location icon.

Last year, Google Maps started offering an alternative way to navigate a car from one place to another. While other navigation applications usually optimize routes in terms of the shortest possible travel time, Google Maps has started to offer routes that are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. However, not all cars behave the same or can optimize fuel efficiency. While gasoline-powered vehicles are still common in the U.S., the number of electric and hybrid vehicles on the road is increasing, and there are still a large number of diesel-powered vehicles. It probably goes without saying that the most fuel-efficient route for a car with an internal combustion engine will not be the same as that for an electric car.

9to5Google has discovered that the latest Google Maps beta (version 11.39) includes preparations to specify the engine type of the car you're currently driving. This selection, with petrol, electric, hybrid and diesel options, will be used by the app to 'tailor' your navigation to find what 'gives you the most fuel or energy savings'. Apparently, you won't need to choose a specific engine type, even after this feature is released. In addition, there will be an option in the application settings to switch to a different engine type if necessary.

Google Maps has already received another novelty, which is a modified shared location icon. Until now, the icon was highlighted with a white circle, which is missing in the new version, and now the entire profile picture of the person sharing the location is visible. From the point of view of the overall aesthetics of the application, this minor change is certainly welcome.
