Emojis have been a part of how we communicate every day for some time, thanks to their ability to convey emotions or thoughts. The library of available emojis has expanded over the years thanks to the efforts of the Unicode Consortium and Google's Emoji Kitchen initiative. These days, new emoticons were presented to the organization for approval in September, which should be included in the Unicode 15 standard this year. Already now, thanks to the website Emojipedia we can see what their first designs look like.

There are only 31 new emoji this year, which is only a third compared to last year. One of the most requested emojis over the years has been the high five - this year's contender, called Pushing Hands, finally addresses that need. Interesting additions are also pink, light blue and gray hearts, a trembling face, a jellyfish or Khanda, which is a symbol of the Sikh faith.

In fact, there are only 21 emoticons on the list because the aforementioned high five includes several variations of skin tone. It should also be kept in mind that the list of emoji included in the Unicode 15 standard is only a draft and the final emoji design may still change until September.
