After several weeks since Samsung published its estimated financial results for the second quarter of this year, now he announced its "sharp" results for this period. The Korean tech giant said its revenue reached 77,2 trillion won (roughly 1,4 trillion CZK), its best-ever second-quarter result and a 21% year-over-year increase.

Samsung's profit in the second quarter of this year was 14,1 billion. won (approximately CZK 268 billion), which is the best result since 2018. This is a 12% increase from year to year. The company achieved this result despite the downward trend of the smartphone market, with chip sales helping it in particular.

Although Samsung's mobile business fell year-on-year (to 2,62 trillion won, or roughly CZK 49,8 billion), its sales rose by 31%, thanks to solid sales of the series phones Galaxy S22 and tablet series Galaxy Tab S8. Samsung expects this division's sales to remain flat or increase by single digits in the second half of this year. Sales of Samsung's semiconductor business were up 18% year-over-year, and profits were up as well. The company expects demand in the mobile and PC categories to decline in the coming months. The Device Solutions segment contributed 9,98 trillion won (about CZK 189,6 billion) to operating profit.

Samsung also announced that its contract chip manufacturing division (Samsung Foundry) achieved its best second-quarter revenue thanks to improved yield. He also said it is the world's first company to supply advanced 3nm chips. He added that he is trying to win contracts from new global clients and plans to produce the second generation of chips with GAA (Gate-All-Around) technology.

As for the display division of Samsung Display, it was the third largest contributor with a profit of 1,06 billion. won (approximately CZK 20 billion). Despite declining smartphone sales, the division maintained its performance by expanding OLED panels into notebooks and gaming devices. As for the TV segment, Samsung saw a significant decline here. It achieved the worst profit for the second quarter in the last three years - 360 billion won (roughly 6,8 billion CZK). Samsung said lower sales were due to a reduction in pent-up demand following lockdowns linked to the coronavirus pandemic and macroeconomic factors. The division is expected to continue similar performance through the end of the year.
