Although smartphone sales in Russia fell by almost a third in the second quarter of this year, Samsung devices Galaxy reportedly not available at all in many areas. Although demand for smartphones fell to a new ten-year low in the second quarter, the supply chain is suffering even more.

In March, Samsung announced that it was suspending deliveries of its smartphones to Russia until further notice due to the ongoing events in Ukraine. The Korean giant was not the only Western electronics maker to pull out of the country in response to the Russian invasion. To mitigate the effects of this exodus, Russia has implemented a program that allows imports without the permission of trademark owners. In other words, stores can import Samsung smartphones and tablets into the country without its approval.

As he writes online daily The Moscow Times, despite this measure, there are many regions in Russia where potential customers simply cannot get phones from the Korean giant (as well as Apple). In the second quarter, demand for smartphones in the country is said to have fallen by 30% year-on-year, reaching a new ten-year low. Samsung's wholesale distributor Merlion says there are multiple reasons contributing to the undersupply in Russia, from broken logistics chains and limited funding to problems with customs clearance.

Samsung's market share in Russia is not negligible, on the contrary. With a share of around 30%, it is the number one smartphone here. But that won't pay much if customers there can't find any of his phones on store shelves. Of course, sales will continue to decline.
