Samsung is an innovator in many areas of the technological world, including smartphones. In this segment, it is a pioneer of flexible devices that could be created thanks to its innovative technologies and sophisticated and high-precision manufacturing processes.

The key element of his "benders" is Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), a proprietary material that can be bent several hundred thousand times while maintaining its durability and strength. On the occasion of the introduction of new flexible phones Galaxy ZFold4 a Z-Flip4 Samsung has released a video on how UTG is created.

The video shows several key stages in the creation of UTG, including how the Korean giant cuts, shapes and smoothes each piece for maximum durability to ensure the highest quality of the final product. According to Samsung, UTG is as thin as a third of a human hair, so durability is absolutely essential here. Once the glass is cut, it goes through a process to ensure it is perfectly smooth, as any imperfections could damage the display glass over time. The UTG is then subjected to very rigorous testing to ensure that it can withstand up to 200 opening and closing cycles.

Flexible phones are still relatively new, but a rapidly growing form factor thanks to Samsung, so the process of creating flexible glass is indeed interesting to the uninitiated. Judge for yourself.
