Samsung is the undisputed number one in the world of foldable smartphones, which other manufacturers are trying to at least come close to. The Korean giant introduced new "benders" last week Galaxy From Fold4 a From Flip4 and shortly after, Xiaomi also came up with a new puzzle. Mix Fold 2, as the novelty of the Chinese giant is called, could be the first serious competitor of the models Galaxy From the Fold. Let's look at a direct comparison of the two new Folds and find out if Samsung should really start to worry in the field of folding smartphones.

Galaxy Both Fold4 and Mix Fold 2 are powered by the same chip, so Snapdragon 8+ Gen1. They also have similar memory variants, including 12 GB of operating and 1 TB of internal memory. As for the battery, the jigsaw from Xiaomi is 100 mAh better (4500 vs. 4400 mAh) and supports significantly faster charging (67 vs. 25 W). However, compared to the fourth Fold, it does not have wireless (and therefore not even reverse wireless) charging.

The Mix Fold 2 is equipped with an 8-inch flexible display with a resolution of 2160 x 1914 px, 120Hz refresh rate and Schott UTG protection, and an external display with a size of 6,56 inches, a resolution of 2560 x 1080 px, a 120Hz refresh rate and an aspect ratio of 21:9. The Fold4 has a slightly smaller main display, specifically with a 7,6-inch diagonal, which has a resolution of 2176 x 1812 px, a 120Hz refresh rate and UTG protection, and also a slightly smaller external display with a size of 6,2 inches, a resolution of 2316 x 904 px and also a 120Hz refresh rate.

Both devices have a different hinge design despite very similar looking displays. While Fold4's hinge creates a single fold on the flexible display, its competitor's hinge creates several. The creases on the Mix Fold 2's display seem to be a bit more distracting to the touch and likely catch light reflections from multiple angles.

Another area where Xiaomi wants to challenge Samsung is the camera. The Mix Fold 2 got a triple rear camera with a resolution of 50, 13 and 8 MPx, with the second being a "wide-angle" and the third serving as a telephoto lens. The rear photo array is complemented by a 20 MPx front camera embedded in the external display. The fourth Fold is also equipped with a triple rear camera, which has a resolution of 50, 12 and 10 MPx, while the second and third fulfill the same roles as those of the Mix Fold 2 (the ultra-wide-angle lens has the same angle of view of 123 °, but the telephoto lens is better - it allows up to three times optical zoom compared to twice that of the competitor). The front camera (integrated into the external display) has a resolution of 10 MPx. Here, compared to Xiaomi, Samsung boasts a sub-display camera (with a resolution of 4 MPx) and in the field of the camera it has one more trump card – mode Flex.

Although the internal hardware and camera specifications of the two folds are comparable, Xiaomi has the upper hand when it comes to price, but with one caveat – the Mix Fold 2 is not available outside of China and can probably reach its price in the country thanks to subsidies. It will cost approximately CZK 31 in conversion, while Samsung will sell Fold200 (at least in the Czech Republic) for CZK 4.

Even though the Fold4 offers a more complete and perfect user experience (thanks to better software, multitasking, cameras, build quality or hinge, or wireless charging), there's no denying that the Mix Fold 2 also has qualities that are very good value for money. However, its disadvantage is the aforementioned limited availability. If that changes, Xiaomi's new jigsaw could be a more than worthy rival to the line Galaxy From the Fold.
