From the outside, the flexible OLED panel does not need Samsung's new puzzle Galaxy Z Fold4 look too different from the one used by its predecessor. It has the same size and the same fold. However, it is actually quite substantially improved.

The fourth Fold uses a flexible display called Eco2 OLED Plus, made by Samsung Display. This display is improved over the previous one to be more durable and have a higher perceived brightness. It is built on Samsung's integrated polarizing OLED panel technology and compared to the Eco OLED Plus panel of the third Fold, it has increased transmittance (perceived brightness specifically increases the transmittance of red and blue pixels). Although the maximum brightness of the new panel is not higher than the previous one, the increased transmittance combined with the contrast ratio and other elements make it subjectively brighter.

In addition, the new panel is also more energy efficient. Samsung achieved this by using new organic materials. The result is better battery life. Samsung Display's UPC Plus technology also increases the perceived resolution by 40%, which makes photos taken by the sub-display camera seem clearer (at the same resolution as last time, i.e. 4 MPx).

Durability is usually the main concern with flexible displays. That's why Samsung Display tests them thoroughly to ensure they work flawlessly in all environments. This time he placed special emphasis on resistance at extremely high temperatures. The Eco2 OLED Plus panel has been tested and officially verified by the world-renowned testing and certification company Bureau Veritas for resistance of 150 thousand bends at a temperature of 60 °C. The panel can thus maintain its performance at extreme temperatures from -20 to +60 °C.

The improvements that new devices bring can never seem enough. It is not always known exactly how the components that make up a given device have been improved. In the case of the new Fold, it is evident that it can boast one of the best flexible panels today.
