Samsung at last year Galaxy It significantly increased the external display of the Flip, making it significantly more usable. This year's successor has not changed in this respect, even though the One UI superstructure has improved over the past year, the functionality of the external display of the fourth Flip is still quite limited. Now an app could help with that CoverScreenOS, originally developed for last year's Flip.

Created by XDA Developers jagan2, CoverScreen OS brings a full-featured launcher with an app drawer, third-party widget support, and a separate media player card to the external display of the third and now the fourth Flip. The application allows users to run "apps" directly on the external display. This has the potential to not only save valuable time spent answering "texts", but also reduce wear and tear on your phone by not having to open it every time you need to do something.

Other useful features are a screen with caller ID for applications such as WhatsApp and Telegram, support for a full QWERTY keyboard and navigation gestures or Edge Lighting (illumination of the edges of the display) for notifications. If you are working in Samsung Flex mode, you can continue to use the external display with CoverScreen OS even when the main screen is in use.

While CoverScreen OS improves the user experience with the external display of the last two Flips quite substantially, it cannot completely overcome the limitation of its relatively small size of 1,9 inches. Before the launch of the new Flip, there was speculation that its external display would be at least 2 inches in size, which ended up not being confirmed to the disappointment of many. Maybe next time at Flip5.
