Samsung has been increasingly active in the field of electric cars in recent years. It has become one of the main suppliers of batteries for this market, and it seems that it plans to invest even more in this segment.

Samsung's Samsung SDI division wants, according to the website Korea IT News to invest less than 1,5 billion dollars (roughly 37 billion CZK) in the expansion of its factory for the production of batteries for electric cars in Hungary. The company is said to be planning to increase production capacity to one million units or 60 GWh per year. Compared to current production, this would be a 70-80% increase in production capacity.

If all goes according to plan, it will be the largest single investment in electric car batteries on the old continent, according to analysts. However, estimates suggest that the Korean giant has spent roughly $2,25 billion (approximately CZK 55,5 billion) on infrastructure for the production of batteries for electric cars over the past two years.

Outside of Europe, Samsung is building a new factory for the mass production of batteries for electric cars in Malaysia, which will supply automakers such as BWM. In addition, Samsung SDI recently established its first electric car battery development and research center in the US. In the future, he wants to establish more of them, not only in the USA, but also in Europe and other areas of the world.
