When Samsung announced that it was working with AMD on a mobile graphics chip, it raised expectations. The collaboration between the tech giants resulted in the Xclipse 920 GPU, which arrived with Samsung's current flagship chipset Exynos 2200. However, he did not live up to the high expectations many had of him. Despite this, the Korean giant has now said that its future Exynos will continue to use graphics chips based on AMD's RDNA architecture.

"We plan to continue to implement additional features in the RDNA family by working closely with AMD," said Sungboem Park, Samsung's vice president in charge of mobile graphics chip development. "In general, mobile devices tend to be about five years behind gaming consoles when it comes to graphics technology, but working with AMD has allowed us to quickly incorporate the latest console technology into the Exynos 2200 chipset," added.

It should be noted that the Xclipse 920 GPU in the Exynos 2200 did not bring such a breakthrough as some had hoped for from a performance or graphics point of view. It is also interesting to recall that Samsung recently extended cooperation with Qualcomm, which confirmed on this occasion that the next flagship series of the Korean giant Galaxy The S23 will use the next flagship Snapdragon exclusively. In the following year, we will not see any new Exynos in its smartphones, and therefore not even a possible new graphics chip from AMD.

It is worth noting in this context that Samsung has reportedly assembled a special team to work on the new flagship chipset, which should solve the problems that its latest top-of-the-line Exynos have been facing for a long time, i.e. primarily the issue of energy (in)efficiency. However, this chip should not be introduced until 2025 (which would mean that a number of Galaxy S24).
