Samsung's patent application for a smartphone equipped with a transparent rear display appeared on the air. Smartphones with secondary back panels aren't exactly new, but the one Samsung describes in the patent has a unique feature.

The patent application that last week on its Site published by the World Intellectual Property Organization, and which was registered with it in January this year, describes a smartphone with an inconspicuous design, that is, except for the addition of a rear display that is practically invisible (or blends in with the rest of the back panel) when it is completely or partially turned off .

As some of you may remember, the Chinese manufacturer ZTE tried something similar with the Nubia X and Nubia Z20 smartphones. However, these devices did not use a transparent back panel, but a glass with a higher opacity that covered the regular back screen whenever it was not turned on. At the most basic level, this technology is comparable to an external display Galaxy From Flip4.

In contrast, Samsung's patent describes a device equipped with a transparent display, which appears to be able to be fully or partially turned on, similar to the Always On Display feature. It could be used to display logos, unique designs and many other information. As always, keep in mind that a patent does not equal a future product, so it's quite possible that we'll never see a smartphone with a transparent rear display.
