Samsung revealed that it was the victim of a hacker attack in late July. He later admitted that some personal items were stolen informace his customers.

In an email sent to customers on September 2, Samsung said a hacker had stolen user data from some of its systems in the US in July. He said he realized that the data had been stolen at the beginning of August.

The hack only involved the Korean giant's own servers. Consumer devices and control interfaces within applications were not affected. According to him, no social security numbers or payment card numbers were stolen. However, sensitive data such as customer names, date of birth or informace about product registration.

It is unclear at this time why it took Samsung a month to notify customers of the data theft. The company also sent affected customers security best practices to defend against hacking attacks. But maybe she herself could take them to heart. Specifically, these are:

  • Do not click on links or download attachments from suspicious emails.
  • Regularly check your accounts for suspicious activity.
  • Beware of unsolicited communications that request personal information or invite you to click on a web page.
