Samsung released "big" phones every quarter. The row started it all Galaxy S, it continued Galaxy Note, folding phones and ended with a model Galaxy With FE, i.e. the lightweight model of the flagship series. Of course, we also saw watches, headphones, tablets, and phones Galaxy And and more. But Samsung has made some major changes to its portfolio over the past year, and one big one leaves a significant gap that may be difficult for the company to fill.

At the beginning of the year, they went around the world informace, that Galaxy S22 FE cancels. It was a surprise because Galaxy The S21 FE performed reasonably well. In addition, Samsung has previously stated that it will now launch a new "Fan Edition" model every year. However, the company decided that in the case of the model Galaxy This will not be the case with the S22 FE.

The damn chips

A subsequent report from South Korea suggested it may be related to a global chip shortage. Apparently, the company had to choose between increasing production of the model Galaxy The S22 Ultra, which sold very well, or the launch of the model Galaxy S22 FE. Considering that the profit margins are higher for the Ultra model, Samsung decided to use these chips just for Galaxy S22 Ultra and drop the launch Galaxy S22 FE for this year.

Supply of chips for the entire range Galaxy S22s were said to be very limited at first, which probably reflected in the subsequent unavailability of individual models, and it didn't matter if they were Snapdragon or Exynos. At the same time, Samsung planned to produce 3 million units Galaxy S22 FE, but decided to use these chips instead in the successful Ultra. However, these assumptions are based on local Korean media reports. Samsung to the fate of the model Galaxy He did not officially comment on the S22 FE and, in fact, even on the future of the FE models. Another report though claims that Samsung will bring back the FE in the line Galaxy S with the S23 in 2023, but it's simply too early to be sure.

Few alternatives

But the problem that Samsung got into is that it is not planning any major launch of any phone model for at least half a year. Its FE line attracted many customers by providing near-flagship-level specifications at a very aggressive price point. Customers purchasing a device in this price category now have few real alternatives.

They won't buy the company's latest foldable smartphone, they might not even be willing to wait their turn Galaxy S23, and even then the base model may still cost more than they are willing to spend. Either they buy a generation older device Galaxy S21 FE, or they will simply continue to wait for the base model to be discounted Galaxy S22 so they can get it at a more reasonable price. However, this predicament could be a reason for some customers to switch to other brands, which Samsung would certainly not appreciate.

Unfortunately, he doesn't do much with it. It simply has nothing to offer other than the top model of the range Galaxy A. But mid-range devices do not offer such specifications, and Samsung cannot lower the prices of its models Galaxy The S22 is close enough to the lower segment that it is actually falling into its own trap.

But maybe this vacation, which FE went on, will give Samsung the data on which to make a decision for next year. For example, if he manages to compensate for the losses from the absence of a model Galaxy S22 FE in the market by selling more of its more expensive units, then the company may not want to bring it back because it will actually make money from it. However, if there is a clear hole in the numbers, the company may conclude that the FE needs to be returned.
