In May, it was revealed that Google was developing for its own Android cough and snoring detection function. It has now emerged that it will be offering it through the Digital Balance app.

Google introduced the cough and snoring detection function for the first time in the 2nd generation Nest Hub smart display. A teardown of the Digital Balance beta update (version 1.2.x) has now revealed that the feature will be part of the convenience store mode. So the ability to track coughs and snoring "during a scheduled convenience store" will join other options like customizing your screen and triggering Do Not Disturb mode. The user will have to turn on cough and snoring detection manually and allow access to the microphone, although it will nevertheless only be active during pre-set hours.

This Digital Balance feature will work within the existing integration with the Clock app, which allows it to "track your screen time and show an estimate of your time in bed" based on "when your phone has remained stationary in a dark room." Coughing and snoring will appear next to the previous information about using Digital Balance. You'll see graphs that offer a weekly overview, as well as average cough frequency and average time spent snoring.

It's unclear at this point if the feature will be available on all Digital Balance devices or if it will be limited to Pixel phones.
