A few days ago we reported that Samsung had become a target in the US cyber attack, during which personal data was leaked. Now it has come to light that the Korean giant has been sued over this.

The class-action lawsuit, filed in the District Court of Nevada, accuses Samsung of not reporting the data breach in a timely manner. Hackers have stolen personal information such as names, contacts, date of birth or product registration details. Thousands of US customers were affected. The cyberattack took place in June, according to Samsung, it only found out about it on August 4 and informed about it about a month later. In September, the company launched a full investigation in partnership with a "leading external cyber security firm" and confirmed it was working with police on the matter.

While Samsung is clearly proactive in its vexing matter, it is possible that it neglected to inform its customers in a timely manner, which may now cost it dearly. However, the damage to the reputation will probably be worse. On the other hand, it should be noted that security flaws are usually kept under wraps until a solution is found. And Samsung apparently followed suit. Let us recall that this year was not the first time that Samsung became the target of a hacker attack. In March, it was revealed that hackers had stolen almost 200 GB of his confidential data. According to his then statement however, this data did not include customers' personal information.
