AndroidThese applications are not limited to smartphones only. You can also install them on tablets, smart watches, TVs, and even laptops. However, this diversity of devices limits the usefulness of Google Play Store ratings – for example, if an app is poorly optimized on a tablet, it doesn't necessarily mean it will be on a smartphone. However, that is finally changing now.

Jak pointed out noted leaker Mishaal Rahman, Google confirmed on the Play Console that app ratings are now based on device type. This change was a long time in the making and was actually supposed to come at the beginning of the year. Google mentioned it for the first time last August.

Now, when you head to any app in the Google Play Store, you should see a note in the Ratings & Reviews section confirming that these ratings are "from people who use the same type of device as you." This doesn't necessarily mean you'll see unique review averages, although the number will almost always vary depending on the device you're using.

In the end, it's a rather small change, but one that could have a big impact on how users download apps these days. With how Android continues to expand into new product categories, making sure Google Play Store ratings are accurate for watches, tablets and everything else is a necessary step.
