Samsung boasted that over 10 million devices are already connected to its SmartThings smart home platform. The SmartThings app allows users to control compatible devices by voice and set up a series of automatic When/Then functions for easy home appliance management. SmartThings works with hundreds of compatible devices, including lights, cameras, voice assistants, washing machines, refrigerators and air conditioners.

Samsung bought the erstwhile startup SmartThings in 2014 and reintroduced it – already as a platform – four years later. Initially, it offered only the most basic, but over time, the Korean giant added a whole range of functions to it. As a result, the number of connected devices has increased manifold and is expected to reach 12 million by the end of this year. Samsung also estimates that number will increase to 20 million next year.

One of the main reasons why the number of devices connected to the platform is increasing is the effective notification function. It notifies the owner when the operation has ended or when the device is faulty. The remote control function is also evergreen. The app also receives regular software updates to help diagnose and manage your device.

One of the attractive features of the platform is also the Energy Service, which helps monitor and strategically manage energy consumption, which is especially important these days. SmartThings is not limited to controlling devices from Samsung, currently more than 300 partner devices can connect to the platform.
