At the beginning of September he presented Apple the new generation of their iPhones. Of course, they caused quite a stir, not only because of what's new in the iPhone 14 Pro models, but also because of how few changes have taken place in the basic model, i.e. the iPhone 14. It also reached our editorial office, so we can give it an objective user view Androidu.

It goes without saying that even though Samsung phones are the best sellers in the world when it comes to the premium phone segment, it Apple clearly rolling. If Samsung leads especially in the sale of cheap devices, Apple paradoxically, it sells more of its most expensive models. After all, the cheap phone doesn't have one, even though it's here iPhone SE 3rd generation, which just recycles old technology and doesn't seem like a very good buy in any way.

The display is a big bummer

iPhone 14 falls more into the basic range, as it lacks any epithet – Pro, Max and Plus. So it sticks to the 6,1" display. Apple however, this year he cut the mini model and replaced it with the Plus model, as if he had joined the game of the trend of larger displays, and it is therefore a question of how long customers will suffer with this "small" device. World Androidu is bigger after all, even though Samsung is too Galaxy S22 offers the same diagonal size, it is a unique phenomenon in the portfolio of the South Korean manufacturer, because even the models of the series Galaxy And they are already bigger.

The display of the iPhone 14 is pleasing at first glance, but its technologies are not even up to the current cutting edge, and that is of course a problem. It does not have an adaptive refresh rate and does not even reach 120 Hz. It simply means that if you are used to yours Android device with a higher frequency, that iPhone 14 display will pull your eyes a lot. While the animations are smooth and fast, the display technology makes them jerky.

Of course, there is no Dynamic Island, just a simple cut-out which Apple redesigned in the iPhone 13 generation. So no change here. You're always on Apple also reserved only for use with the 14 Pro models, although depending on how this function on iPhonech looks, it doesn't really matter because she's just plain awful. Of course, the company blames this on the absence of the adaptive refresh rate of other models. But he could have given the iPhone 14 at least the one from the iPhone 13 Pro, which does not start at one Hz, but at 10 Hz. However, no, a fix must be enough for regular users, if they want more, let them pay.

Performance with a question mark

Whatever you have Android with any chipset, Apple just can't match it with its current A series chips. But it is also largely due to the differences in the system, so it is still necessary to take into account that in such a case apples and pears are being compared (almost literally speaking). But because of the chip crisis Apple changed its strategy and did not put the top A16 Bionic in the iPhone 14, only the A15 Bionic chip, which it presented together with the iPhone 13 Pro, beats in them. So it is this chip, not the one that iPhones 13 have, which have one less graphics core.

As silly as it sounds, it doesn't really matter, at least for now. iPhone 14 doesn't stutter, everything on it flies perfectly, it doesn't suffocate, it just warms up slightly. After all, even devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. RAM memory Apple it doesn't show because we shouldn't really care about its size. On the one hand, he is right, because iOS he is not as demanding on her as Android. iPhone So 14 has 6 GB of RAM, but take that as additional and meaningless information.

To a certain extent, the durability of the device is related to the performance. It is a bit of a paradox that it can handle even with a 3279mAh battery iPhone 14 what other phones with 5000mAh battery. That's of course a full day of normal use where you'll still have some juice left at the end. Apple it simply knows how to optimize performance with the ideal battery size and the operating system used, that must be acknowledged. However, it's still true that you can find phones on the market that last longer, and that's only in Apple's own stable in the form of Max models (and now Plus again).

Cameras without a major shift

Apple tries his best in the quality of his iPhone photography skills, and he succeeds. They provide relatively reliable and realistic results, in ideal conditions with minimal noise and exemplary sharpness. But its ultra-wide-angle lens still smears the sides, which limits its use, and Apple here it still ignores the telephoto lens, which is also offered by the mentioned one Galaxy S22. So it's a question of what do you prefer - the quality and fidelity of scene rendering, or more options and creativity when playing with zoom?

It is a big question here, why keep chasing the quality of the result, when in the end the vast majority of our photos remain trapped in the phone gallery anyway, and if we print something, we print it anyway in a size that does not show the quality of the camera in the end anyway. And the lenses of the iPhone 14 are so much more protruding that it's uncomfortable. This is evident when working with the phone on a flat surface (table) and picking up dirt. And that's neither pretty nor practical, because you can't avoid constantly cleaning the lenses.

Apple however, it again mentions how many times the quality of photos from the new iPhone has improved, even in low light conditions. But when you improve something already great, you can hardly see the differences with the naked eye anyway, and it looks like chasing numbers, nothing else. By the way, there is still only a dual 12 MPx camera, no 48 MPx as in the 14 Pro models. But what Apple has succeeded in is action mode. It's unbelievable how well its stabilization can work even while running. After all, see for yourself.

The price is just a problem

Without unnecessary preoccupation and with an objective view, it is necessary to say that iPhones are still nice phones that are unrivaled in their performance and software support. But they're already losing some of that equipment, especially when it comes to their displays. If we look at the price, we climb well above 20, where one would expect something better (the basic iPhone 14 costs 26 CZK). The fact that they don't have a telephoto lens is quite understandable, it doesn't belong in the middle class, and it's simply the basic range of iPhones, even if it's priced at the highest end.

When I stand next to each other iPhone 14, Galaxy S22 (CZK 21) a Galaxy From the Flip4 (CZK 27), my decision is relatively clear as to which phone I would go for. Although it is Galaxy S22 great phone, it's actually as boring as itself iPhone 14. Fortunately, it offers at least the optical zoom. Even if Samsung's current puzzle doesn't have it, it's still a unique, original and fun device that the company itself is putting directly against iPhones. And she also knows why she's doing it, and that's because she could really talk the hesitant shooters down. But the question is whether apple growers are willing to leave the nicely fenced world for this iOS.
