Your Samsung phone or tablet suddenly started Galaxy only charge to a maximum of 85 percent? Is this a bug or something broke? No, it's a feature called Protect Battery. And you can turn it off or on if you want.

You could have turned on the function yourself by mistake, someone else could have turned it on for you, it could have been activated even after a system update. But the result of all steps is the same - you will not get more than 85% of the battery capacity into the device. But why is that so? Simply to extend the life of the battery, since the last part of the charge cycle is the most demanding on the battery, so Samsung thought that if you want to keep the battery in the best condition for the longest time, you should be able to just skip this.

So the result is Protect Battery. If enabled, the device Galaxy it charges to 85% and no more. However, it is not entirely clear why it turns on automatically for some people during a system update, and not for others. If you like the idea of reducing the battery drain, you can of course leave it on. Otherwise, you can easily turn it off to achieve a full 100% charge again. You can also combine both options, when you know that you have a long day ahead of you, you turn off the function, but otherwise you have it on.

How to turn off Protect Battery

  • Click on Battery and device care.
