Market analysts expect Samsung's profit to decline by 25% in the third quarter of this year. They cite declining chip sales and weakening demand for consumer electronics as the cause. Analysts estimate the Korean giant will experience its first year-on-year quarterly decline in nearly three years.

Analysts from Refinitiv SmartEstimate predict that Samsung's operating profit will decrease to 11,8 trillion won (about 212,4 billion CZK) in the third quarter of this year. According to their estimate, the operating profit of its chip division fell by a third to 6,8 trillion won (approximately CZK 122,4 billion).

If these estimates are correct, it will mark the first profit decline Samsung has seen since the first quarter of 2020 and the lowest quarterly profit since the first quarter of last year. According to analysts, its smartphone division also saw a drop in profit, roughly 17% to 2,8 trillion won (roughly CZK 50,4 billion), although they also add that its new flexible phones Galaxy ZFold4 a Z-Flip4 may have helped increase the average sales price during the third quarter. As for smartphone shipments, they are estimated to have declined by 11% to around 62,6 million in the period under review.

Samsung isn't the only company to suffer losses in recent quarters. Analysts see rising global inflation, fears of a recession and the effects of Russia's invasion of Ukraine as the main cause.
