The globally popular messaging app WhatsApp has been literally churning out one feature after another lately to catch up with its competitors. For example, in the area privacy or emoticons. Now it has been revealed that it is working to increase the number of participants in the group chat.

The number of group chat participants was increased from 256 to 512 in June and now WhatsApp according to the site BetaInfo is working to double that number. Selected beta testers have already started receiving the new feature, and it could soon be made available to the general public.

A group chat with 1024 participants will work exactly the same as the previous limits. You will see more messages and your messages will reach more people. The new limit will be applied primarily to users moving in larger organizations.

If you thought that 1024 people in one group chat was a lot, you might be surprised to learn that one of WhatsApp's main competitors, Telegram, allows you to add up to 200 participants to the same group. Such a large number is suitable for large enterprises or if you use the group for broadcast purposes. In this case, it allows you to send a message or information to a large number of people at once.
