A few weeks ago we brought you a review on Galaxy A53 5G. I found it to be a great mid-range phone, but it's been there once. Now let's take a closer look at his siblings Galaxy A33 5G. Is it worth more than the first mentioned with almost the same equipment and a lower price tag?
The contents of the package are poor
If you thought the contents of the package Galaxy A33 5G is different from u Galaxy A53 5G, we have to disappoint you. You will find exactly the same thing here, i.e. a charging/data cable with USB-C terminals, a needle for pulling out the SIM card tray, or for two SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card, and a few user manuals. It's certainly a shame that a smartphone giant like Samsung offers such poor packaging for its phones. In our opinion, the charger is an essential part of it, at least with regard to the middle class, if not the highest class.
Design and workmanship and class standard
Galaxy The A33 5G is a very cool phone in terms of design, just like its sibling. We got our hands on the light blue version, which looks really "cool". As Galaxy The A53 5G smartphone is also available in white, black and orange. The back and the frame are made of plastic, just like its sibling, but that doesn't matter because it doesn't give out anything here either and everything fits perfectly. At first glance, you wouldn't even recognize that the frame is really plastic.
The front is occupied by a flat Infinity-U type display with slightly thicker frames than the u Galaxy A53 5G (especially the lower one). The back side is no different from that of its sibling – here too we find a slightly raised module with four cameras, which casts effective shadows at certain angles. And here, too, the back has a matte finish, so the phone holds well in the hand and a minimum of fingerprints stick to it.
Galaxy The A33 5G measures 159,7 x 74 x 8,1 mm (making it 0,1 mm larger and 0,8 mm slimmer than Galaxy A53 5G) and weighs 186 g (3 g less than its sibling). And just like him, it has an IP67 degree of protection and Gorilla Glass 5 display protection. Briefly summarized – the design, processing and durability of the phone are exemplary, as in a higher model.
Display without Always On
Galaxy A33 5G received a Super AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6,4 inches (it is therefore 0,1 inch smaller than the screen Galaxy A53 5G), with FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 px) and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The display is fine enough (the pixel density is 411 ppi to be precise), has nicely saturated colors, perfect black and its shades, exemplary viewing angles and very solid readability in direct sunlight. But that's certainly no surprise when it uses the same technology as its sibling. However, there are some differences, one of which is a lower refresh rate (u Galaxy A53 5G is 120 Hz) and the second, perhaps more fundamental for some, is the absence of Always On mode. The missing Always On is certainly a shame, because it is a function that even some affordable smartphones (such as Realme 8 or Honor 50 Lite) have today. Let's also add that the under-display reader is fast and reliable here, as well as unlocking with the face.
Performance as expected
The phone, like its siblings, is powered by the Exynos 1280 chipset, which in our case was paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. In the AnTuTu benchmark, this combination scored 333 points, which is about 752% less than what its sibling achieved in it, but in real operation, the "on paper" lower performance does not manifest itself in any way. Everything is smooth, nothing is interrupted anywhere, you don't have to wait long for anything (of course, the debugging of the software side, i.e. the One UI 24 superstructure, has an effect on this). You won't have much of a problem in games either, if of course you don't play them at the highest details (which, after all, also applies to Galaxy A53 5G). We specifically tested the popular titles Apex Legends, PUBG MOBILE and World of Tanks on the phone and they were all very playable (we played Apex Legends and PUBG MOBILE on HD settings and WoT on medium details). Of course, don't expect a stable 60 fps, but rather between 30-40 fps. Just like with its sibling, expect the phone to get quite noticeably "hot" when playing.
The camera just right
Galaxy The A33 5G is equipped with a quad rear camera with a resolution of 48, 8, 5 and 2 MPx. As in Galaxy The main sensor of the A53 5G also boasts optical image stabilization. In good light, the phone captures beautifully sharp detailed images with a higher contrast and a very decent dynamic range, although we would not call the colors completely true to reality (in short, the typical Samsung pleasantness of the photos prevails here).
At night, the quality of the photos drops rapidly, they are unrealistically saturated, significantly less sharp, and we also noticed problems with focusing. We will not focus more on the camera from the point of view of taking pictures here, as we discussed this topic in detail earlier in a separate article.
As with its sibling, you can shoot videos in up to 4K resolution at 30 fps. In good lighting conditions, they are exemplary sharp and detailed and, unlike those produced by a higher model, are less saturated in color (and therefore somewhat more realistic). Even here, however, 4K recordings were visibly shaky, as stabilization is not supported in this resolution (as with its sibling, it only works up to Full HD resolution at 30 fps).
At night, the videos are only "usable", they are quite noisy, the details are blurred and under certain conditions they even have an unnatural orange tint. However, unlike its sibling, we did not experience the problem of unstable focus.
Battery life is great
The phone is supplied with "juice" by a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh, i.e. the same as in Galaxy A53 5G. In practice, the endurance is the same, i.e. if you use the phone sparingly, it is not a big problem to get two days of endurance, if intensively (Wi-Fi permanently on, playing games, watching videos...), it will be a maximum of one and a half days. With an absolutely minimal workload, you can get even for 3-4 days. Even in this case, the battery supports 25W charging and from zero to full with a cable (unfortunately, we didn't have the charger available again) and recharges in about two and a half hours.
Galaxy A33 5G vs. Galaxy A53 5G
Underlined, summed up, Galaxy The A33 5G is a very successful mid-range smartphone. It offers a nice design, exemplary workmanship and durability, a great display, an above average camera and a very solid battery life. However, it also offers the same Galaxy A53 5G, so the question is which one is worth more. We feel better about this comparison Galaxy A33 5G, because it differs from the higher model only in details, such as a smaller display and a lower refresh rate, the lack of Always On mode (although this may be more than just a "detail" for some) and a slightly worse camera, while it is several thousand cheaper. However, if you want a middle class without compromise, the Sibling is the obvious choice.
Samsung phone Galaxy You can buy the A33 5G here, for example
Samsung is absolutely amazing Galaxy a33. I've had the phone for almost two weeks and I can't complain about anything, everything works as it should. I have the black color, but that doesn't matter at all, all types are good and I fully recommend them 👍
I properly tested the A53 recommended to my brother. I agree with everything said, except informacethat nothing goes wrong. That is not true. I had to "play" with it quite a bit so that nothing stuttered, including turning off the effects. For such solidly powerful hardware, I would not expect such an untuned OS, which is also totally sloppy with an incredible amount of ballast that can be turned off or uninstalled only partially. Otherwise, I agree that the A33 has no competition in terms of price-performance-features, and despite my complaints, I will buy it.
Strange, we didn't experience any chipping on our test piece, and we were mining it really hard. The only problem was that it got quite hot during certain activities, but this did not affect the performance. Have you downloaded all updates to it? You may have come across an individually poorly tuned piece. Anyway, thanks for the comment.
I bought it and I am satisfied. I'm just adding that Always On Display is INCLUDED in this phone!!!
The absence of the always on display totally pissed me off. I only found out when I bought it. It never occurred to me that the A33 doesn't have this feature. For me, the absence of any notification at this price level is unacceptable. The next phone will not be Samsung.
