Wearable technologies are very popular. It started with smart watches, it continues with TWS headphones, but there are also other products trying to succeed in this segment. One of them is the Oura Ring, i.e. a smart ring, which Samsung will probably try to do now.

If you want to grow, you have to keep coming up with new and new solutions. Samsung is not Apple, which only benefits from the popularity of its products that have been captured for so many years without much invention. The South Korean manufacturer wants to innovate, which is why we also have foldable phones here. Latest escape claims that Samsung already applied for a patent for its smart ring at the US Patent and Trademark Office in October of last year. Samsung's own version of the ring will apparently include key health-tracking features commonly found on many of the top smart rings, such as the Oura Ring (Gen 3).

More accurate measurements

According to the document, Samsung will equip its ring with an optical sensor to measure blood flow and an electrocardiogram to measure heart rate and blood pressure. It will also likely be able to control other devices such as laptops, smartphones and TVs, setting it apart from its competition and fitting better into Samsung's ecosystem.

For people who just want to track their health indicators, smart rings are a better alternative to smartwatches for several reasons. Smart rings consume less energy, because of course they do not have a display, which allows them to be used for longer periods of time even outside the reach of the charger. They also provide more accurate readings because they are in closer contact with the body.

The smart ring market is basically in its infancy at the moment and there are only a few players, including the most famous company Oura. Still, it's predicted to grow in the coming years, and Samsung's early involvement in the segment could clearly help. At one time it was also speculated that a smart ring would also be brought Apple. But as you probably understand, the American company has become a cumbersome dinosaur that certainly does not set new trends, so one cannot hope too much for the launch of any of its new products.
