Samsung has established a new tradition of introducing new foldable phones for several years. if it is Galaxy z Flip is more of a lifestyle device Galaxy Z Fold the best that Samsung can create in the given segment. Not only in the folding and smartphone kind, but to some extent also in the tablet kind.

Galaxy The Z Fold4 is already the 4th generation of the first foldable phone to hit the market from a major brand. If the first generation started everything and improved the 3rd to the maximum, now it is only getting better. The changes are not too many, but they are all the more welcome. However, keep in mind that the Z Fold4 is a clear workhorse, and if the Z Flip is appreciated by practically everyone, the Z Fold is simply not intended for the masses, which is logically to blame for its price.

Captured look

Samsung did not experiment and the novelty looks very similar to its predecessor. After all, those unfamiliar with the issues can easily confuse them. The height has been reduced by 3mm compared to the Z Fold3, and the device is 0,3mm thinner when unfolded than its predecessor. Samsung also reduced the weight by 8 grams, which is not much, but it is important that the weight did not increase.

The flatter frame visually contrasts well with the beautiful matte finish of the rear glass panel, which is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ and was glossy in the previous generation. It's also nice to see that there's also an IPX8 water resistance rating. Although the device is not resistant to dust, if you pour water on it, it will not harm it in any way.

The hinge is, of course, an integral part of every foldable smartphone, and Samsung has used it for the model Galaxy A new one from Fold4, which is 6 mm narrower and thinner overall. The new mechanism inside also makes it easier to open and close the hinge overall, making the device fold and unfold more smoothly, comfortably and confidently, even if you can still hear it.

Two full-sized displays

The 6,2-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz is the same size as its predecessor, but it has a more pleasant aspect ratio of 23,1:9, even if it is still not completely natural and you have to get used to it for a while. The ideal and common aspect ratio is 22:9. Samsung has also trimmed the bezels, so the panel not only looks very good, but is now much better to work with. This way, you will be significantly less likely to press the wrong icons or keyboard keys while typing, because the display is narrow, but not as much as it was with earlier models.

The foldable display is also the same size of 7,6 inches as its predecessor, but it also benefits from significantly reduced bezels, which in turn improves the overall impression, not only on the eye but also during use. The panel itself is also wider and shorter, it also features a sub-display camera, which is better hidden this time thanks to a new sub-pixel design. It's barely noticeable on a light background, but on black you still know you have it.

Samsung claims that the UTG (ultra thin glass) panel is 45% stronger than before thanks to new materials and manufacturing process. Samsung Display, which manufactures these panels, has also made some interesting innovations to increase perceived brightness and color reproduction. Of course there is a groove in the display, of course there is a film. There is no need to deal with it any more, it is a tax on the construction and technology used. The groove here bothers more than with the Flip, the film, on the other hand, less so. But it is very subjective. Personally, I've learned to live with it and my approach is that if I want a flexible device, I have to accept the game. And I'm actually quite happy to do it, because I just enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles.

Cameras are enough

The resolution of the camera under the display has not increased, so it has the same 4 MPx as Galaxy From Fold3. However, the new sub-pixel design helps it to capture clearer images, so the results give a better impression, but it should be approached in such a way that it is only suitable for video calls, selfies are worth taking with the front camera.

If you want the best possible cameras in Samsung, Galaxy The S22 Ultra is still the best possible choice. Samsung hasn't gone too far with its foldable smartphones in terms of cameras, although at least the wide-angle one taken from the range is to be commended here Galaxy S22. Even with the rest, you won't find yourself in a situation where they can't do their job, they're simply better on the market.

Camera specifications Galaxy From Fold4:

  • Wide angle: 50MPx, f/1,8, 23mm, Dual Pixel PDAF and OIS
  • Ultra wide angle: 12MPx, 12mm, 123 degrees, f/2,2
  • Telephoto lens: 10 MPx, f/2,4, 66 mm, PDAF, OIS, 3x optical zoom
  • Front camera: 10MP, f/2,2, 24mm
  • Sub-display camera: 4MP, f/1,8, 26mm

The main lens tends to overexpose images slightly, but that's something Samsung can easily fix with an update. Optical image stabilization and video stabilization are noticeably better, so photos and videos of your hyperactive kids or pets will be sharp and clear most of the time. In combination with Space Zoom technology, you can try to take clear pictures even of slightly more distant objects. Adequate quality can still be expected up to 20x magnification. The maximum is 30x.

Performance without controversy

With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor under the hood, you can be sure that Galaxy The Z Fold4 has enough power to handle anything you throw at it. The chipset excels at delivering consistent performance even under heavy workloads. So no matter how demanding a multitasker or mobile gamer you are, Galaxy Z Fold4 keeps up with you without breaking a sweat. Only the device gets a little warm. For a domestic user, it's just great that we don't have an Exynos 2200 here, but the best possible Snapdragon at the time of the phone's launch.

12 GB of RAM is definitely enough capacity, and with the available storage of up to 1 TB, you'll have plenty of space for your data. But keep in mind that Galaxy The Z Fold4 doesn't have a microSD card slot, so think ahead about how much space you need when buying. Although we have cloud services here, they may not suit everyone.

The battery life is surprisingly good

There was legitimate concern among fans of the previous puzzle when it was revealed that Galaxy The Z Fold4 will have the same 4mAh battery as its predecessor. However, energy efficiency has been significantly improved in many areas, which has a positive effect on overall battery life. Although it would be much better to have a bigger battery, there is simply no place to put it. You definitely don't want an even bulkier Fold.

You'll still have a complete overview of the day, so there's no need to worry. Thanks to the collective improvement of the display and especially the efficiency of the chip, the Fold4 delivers one of the best battery life experiences of any Samsung device I've tested so far, whether it's Galaxy S22 Ultra or Z Flip4.

The software excites

In the new Fold, you will find a system Android 12L and One UI 4.1.1. It is actually the first smartphone that comes with the system Android The 12L delivers to the market, which is a special iteration Androidu, which Google created for devices with large screens, typically tablets. The addition of the main panel, the so-called Taskbar, is one of the biggest and most useful changes. It provides almost desktop multitasking in the sense that you get faster access to the latest and most used applications.

You can even drag apps directly into split view mode and then save the app pair to the taskbar for quick launch again. It would be nice to have even more control over which apps show up in your taskbar, but this is a really good start. Flex mode has also been improved, which now functions as a trackpad in the lower half of the display. It would just optimize more applications for it to have more potential.

The result is worth it

Performance and versatility Galaxy Fold4 speaks for itself. There is almost no device on the market that could actually compete with it, at least here. It is a full-fledged flagship smartphone with the latest mobile technologies. It is foldable, and thanks to this unique form factor, it simply provides many advantages, and it actually has only two disadvantages. For some, these may be a small battery, which passed the test, and a larger thickness. But, paradoxically, it doesn't matter either, because thickness doesn't matter as much as width in a trouser pocket, and when closed the Fold is narrower than most 6,7" smartphones.

It also supports the S Pen, which is the perfect companion for those who need to remain highly productive on the go. It copies the features and functions of that in the previous generation, as well as in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Compared to the second mentioned, it has a softer tip so as not to scratch the foil of the internal display. It is not compatible with the external one.

So the question for CZK 44 is: "You should." Galaxy Z Fold4 to buy?” You definitely should if you're the type of person who can tap into its full potential and a tech enthusiast. If you just want to try the flexible design, it is more suitable for you Galaxy From Flip4. If you also don't know what a tablet with Androiderm, the Fold probably won't be for you either.
