Samsung gave up on its Gear VR project a few years ago Galaxy The S10 is the last mobile device to be supported for the VR headset. However, even though the Gear VR no longer exists, the company is refocusing its efforts in that direction, albeit more specifically towards AR (augmented reality). Indeed, this type of technology seems to be the way of the future due to its potential usefulness in everyday life. And Samsung should already have a new AR product in preparation.

The company has reportedly been working on a prototype AR product bearing the model number SM-I110 for at least a year. New message however, it indicates that it has been replaced by a new AR headset bearing the model number SM-I120. Unfortunately, it's still too early to say what it actually is, as information about this device and its capabilities is really scarce.

However, it's unclear if the SM-I120 AR headset is a new prototype meant to remain in the company's labs, or if it's perhaps a development kit intended to allow third-party developers to create AR software in the future. For all we know, this could be a pre-production device that may well see the light of day as early as 2023, but it's definitely not a certainty.

But one thing is certain: Samsung has not given up on the development of augmented reality hardware, and it is good to see how the Oculus/Meta platform continues to develop this segment with the launch of the Quest Pro device. In addition, it would be a hit in the dark for Samsung if it came up with its solution earlier than Apple, which should also have both an AR headset and VR glasses in development. Many see immeasurable potential in moving into the virtual space, and Samsung has been flirting with it for quite some time. But it is one thing to introduce a product and another to tell users what it will actually be good for. Many of us don't even know that yet.
