According to new reports, Google is testing some features in the Messages app that are only available to a limited group of users. After releasing new icons for it and showing other upcoming features, it is now said to be testing icons for delivering and reading messages.

If you use the Messages app, you know that it uses an indicator for delivered and read messages. This feature is similar to that used by almost all messaging and social media apps. Specifically, Google uses the words Delivered and Read to indicate that a message has been delivered and read.

According to the website 9to5Google however, the software giant is testing a new way to mark delivered and read messages, using a tick mark. With this new design, Messages show a single checkmark placed in a circle when a message is delivered. Two checkmarks in overlapping circles indicate that the message has been read. However, there could be a problem with these icons, as it is not certain that everyone will understand their meaning. The words Delivered and Read are clearer indicators after all.

This appears to be a test at the moment, as only a few News users have received this change so far. When and if it will reach everyone is unclear.
