The YouTube app has started receiving a new update that brings a new look and a number of new features to improve the user experience. Specifically, new features include pinch-to-zoom gesture support, precision search, ambient mode, improved dark mode, and new/redesigned buttons.

The pinch-to-zoom gesture allows users to zoom in on a video to see more detail. The feature appears to have been available as a test for Premium subscription users this August, but is now rolling out to all users Androidua iOS. Another new feature is the precise search, which allows you to easily find a specific part of the video (specifically, either by dragging the play bar or by swiping up, which will display thumbnails and allow you to go to the exact part of the video). This feature will also be available in the web version.

The new update also brings an ambient mode that uses dynamic colors to adapt the app's background color to the colors in the video being played. Also new is an even darker dark mode, which makes the black color stand out even better on the AMOLED displays of phones and tablets (it will also be available on the web and smart TVs).

Finally, the new update changes YouTube links in video descriptions to buttons and shrinks the Like, Share, and Download buttons. The Unsubscribe button has also undergone a change, which is now black and white and shaped like a pill. The reason for these changes, according to Google, is to bring the focus back to the video player. The update would be to all users Androidua iOS should have received in the following weeks.
