Samsung's networking division, Samsung Networks, has announced that it has achieved a record average download speed of 1,75GB/s over a distance of 10km using its millimeter wave 5G equipment. The Korean tech giant hit the milestone during a field test conducted in partnership with Australia's state-owned NBN Co.

During this test, the maximum download speed stopped at 2,75 GB/s and the average upload speed was 61,5 MB/s. The new record was achieved using a fixed wireless FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) network using Samsung's 28GHz Compact Macro device, which features the second generation of its 5G modem chip.

Its beamforming technology enables carrier aggregation of different 5G millimeter wave bands, resulting in high download and upload speeds. Samsung said it used 8 component carriers in the test, meaning it used 800 MHz millimeter spectrum aggregation.

Samsung says this new milestone proves that millimeter waves within the 5G network are suitable for densely populated urban areas and wider FWA coverage in remote and rural areas. This, he said, will reduce the urban-rural connectivity gap. Let's add that Samsung has become a strong player in the field of telecommunications equipment for 5G networks in recent years.
