Leica, which is known all over the world as a manufacturer of high-quality cameras and lenses, introduced its first smartphone, the Leitz Phone 1, last year. Now, it has quietly launched its successor, the Leitz Phone 2.

The Leitz Phone 2 borrows most of its hardware from the Sharp Aquos R7, just as the Leitz Phone 1 borrowed most of its hardware from the Aquos R6. However, Leica has added some external hardware tweaks and tweaked its software to set it apart from Sharp's biggest and best smartphone this year.

The phone has a flat 6,6-inch IGZO OLED display with a refresh rate of 240 Hz, which is set in a machine-made frame with grooved flat side bezels. This industrial design, unheard of in the smartphone world, should help the phone with a better grip. Despite this, it has a relatively reasonable weight - 211 g.

The novelty is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, which is supported by 12 GB of operating system and 512 GB of internal memory. The battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh and, according to the manufacturer, it can be charged from zero to one hundred in approximately 100 minutes. Software-wise, the phone is built on Androidin 12

The biggest attraction of the smartphone is the massive 1-inch rear camera with a resolution of 47,2 MPx. Its lens has a focal length of 19 mm and an aperture of f/1.9. The camera offers a number of photo modes and can shoot videos in a resolution of up to 8K. Leica has also modified the camera software to simulate its three iconic M lenses – the Summilux 28mm, Summilux 35mm and Noctilux 50mm.

If you had your eye on the Leitz Phone 2, we have to disappoint you. It will be available (from November 18) only in Japan and will be sold there through SoftBank. Its price was set at 225 yen (about 360 CZK).
