The former head of Waze, which is behind the popular navigation application of the same name, Noam Bardin, announced the establishment of the social platform Post. It is clearly aimed at Twitter and its alternatives, such as the now-growing Mastodon, which is cashing in on the Musk controversy.

Noam Bardin was head of Waze for 12 years (until last year) and describes his newly founded social platform Post as "a place for real people, real news and polite conversation". The first post on the platform apparently refers to the early days of social media: “Remember when social media was fun, introduced you to great ideas and great people, and actually made you smarter? Do you remember when social networks didn't waste your time, when they didn't annoy and upset you? When can you disagree with someone without being threatened or insulted? With the Post platform, we want to give it back."

As for the new platform's features, "posts of any length" will be supported, with the ability to "comment, like, share and post content with your opinion." However, compared to Twitter and its competitors, Post is distinguished by the following options:

  • Buy individual articles from different premium news providers to give users access to multiple perspectives on a given subject.
  • Read content from different sources in a clean interface without having to jump to different websites.
  • Tipping interesting content creators to help them create more content through integrated micropayments.

As for content moderation, there are rules that will be "consistently enforced with the help of our community," according to Bardin. If you would like to join the platform, be prepared that it will take some time - currently more than 120 thousand users are waiting for registration. As of yesterday, only 3500 accounts have been activated.
