Samsung has been producing smartphone photosensors under the ISOCELL brand for many years. This brand was first used when the phone was introduced Galaxy S5 (so in 2014) and over the years the company has also used the ISOCELL Plus and ISOCELL 2.0 branding for its sensors. Now it looks like it is working on a new generation of sensors with a different name.

Samsung recently applied for a trademark registration for the XISO-CELL brand with South Korea's KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service). At this point, we can only speculate if this new brand will be used for the sensors of Samsung's next flagship series Galaxy S23 (however, the Ultra model is speculated to use a sensor named ISOCELL HP2).

The ISOCELL brand is derived from the words "isolated cells", which was Samsung's method of reducing interference and noise from two adjacent pixels in the camera. What the X in front of the current branding stands for and how it relates to camera performance or qualities cannot be said at this time.

It has also been speculated for some time that Galaxy S23 Ultra will have optical image stabilization with displacement sensor, which technology is boasted today iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone series 13 and 14. If this one informace correct and if it is somehow related to the XISO-CELL brand, we will have to wait for that.
