Just a few days after Qualcomm launched a new flagship chip Snapdragon 8 Gen2, introduced the new Snapdragon 782G chipset. It is the successor to the Snapdragon 778G+ chip, which is one of the best chipsets for premium mid-range phones.

The Snapdragon 782G is basically just a slight improvement over the Snapdragon 778G+. It is manufactured using the same process (6nm by TSMC) and has the same processor unit (with slightly higher clocks) and the same graphics chip. The processor consists of one Kryo 670 Prime core clocked at 2,7 GHz, three Kryo 670 Gold cores clocked at 2,2 GHz and four Kryo 670 Silver cores clocked at 1,9 GHz.

Qualcomm claims that the processing power of the new chipset is 778% higher than the Snapdragon 5G+, and that the Adreno 642L GPU is 10% more powerful than last time (so it seems to have a higher clock speed). The chipset supports displays with resolutions up to FHD+ with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and 4K screens with a frequency of 60 Hz.

The built-in Spectra 570L image processor supports up to 200MPx cameras. It can simultaneously process images from three photo sensors (each with a resolution of up to 22 MPx). It supports 10-bit color depth, up to 4K video recording with HDR (HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG) and 720p recording at 240 frames per second. The chip also supports 3D Sonic fingerprint sensors, Quick Charge 4+ charging technology and aptX Adaptive audio codec.

The built-in Snapdragon X53 modem supports both 5G millimeter waves and the sub-6GHz band, offering download speeds of up to 3,7GB/s and upload speeds of up to 1,6GB/s. Other connectivity features include a dual-frequency positioning system (GPS, GLONASS, NavIC, Beidou, QZSS and Galileo), Wi-Fi 6/6E, Bluetooth 5.2 (with LE Audio), NFC and a USB 3.1 Type-C connector.

Qualcomm hasn't said when we should expect the first phones with the new chip, but according to unofficial reports, the Snapdragon 782G will debut in the Honor 80 phone, which is expected to be unveiled this week. It could be a good chipset for Samsung's premium mid-range smartphones like Galaxy A74.
