Samsung doesn't just make smartphones, but also the telecommunications equipment that the phones connect to. In fact, it is one of the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturers in the world. Now, the Korean tech giant has announced that it will manufacture telecom equipment for 4G and 5G networks in India.

According to the website Economic Times In India, Samsung plans to invest 400 crore (roughly CZK 1,14 billion) in its manufacturing plant in the city of Kanchipuram to manufacture equipment for the telecommunication infrastructure of 4G and 5G networks. Its networking division Samsung Networks will now join Ericsson and Nokia in local manufacturing in the country.

Samsung has been operating one of its largest smartphone factories in India for some time now, specifically in the city of Gurugram. In addition, it also manufactures televisions in the country and plans to produce OLED panels for smartphones. With the aforementioned investment, the Korean giant can apply for incentives under the Production Linked Incentive program, which range from 4-7%.

Samsung has already received the approval of the Government of India (more specifically, the Secretariat of the National Security Council) as a trusted source of telecommunications equipment. This approval is required in India before any company can start manufacturing telecom equipment there. Samsung Networks has already received orders from two of India's largest telecom operators, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.
