It might not seem like it, but it's been four months since Google released a supported Pixel phone Android 13. Now for the latest Pixels, as part of the December update, the Pixel Feature Drop has announced a new batch of features, namely Clear Calling, a free VPN, and a new tool for the Recorder app.
Nothing in the company's announcement is entirely new, but fans of Google phones will certainly appreciate that some long-awaited options are finally available. Let's start with what comes on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, because most of the news is about them. The Clear Calling feature is finally coming to them after the teasers of the past months. This feature is designed to work like the Pixel Buds Pro's noise reduction, reducing background noise such as wind or traffic during calls.

Another new feature for the latest Pixels is a free VPN as part of the Google One subscription service. When active, the software giant's private network should help users keep their browsing habits more secure, even when they're connected to the local coffee shop's Wi-Fi. The Recorder app now gets individual speaker labels for when multiple voices are detected. This will be especially appreciated by those who use the application to transcribe conversations between multiple people. That being said, the above news is rolling out to the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, at least for now. Clear Calling is expected to come to other Tensor-powered smartphones at a later date, but the exact date is unknown at this time.

However, Google has not forgotten the older Pixels either. It finally started releasing the combined security and privacy center on them, which we could see in one of the first beta versions Androidu 13. The Center makes it easy to find and view important security and privacy information on one page. Cough Detection and Snoring Detection are now available in new regions with additional language support.
On the back of the December Pixel Feature Drop update, Google has started releasing the December security patch (specifically, all Pixels newer than the Pixel 4 are getting it). This means that the devices will receive it in the near future (probably this week). Galaxy, on which it will be enriched with Samsung fixes as usual.
